we just want to inform you that another paper by Herbert Schlangemann titled "PlusPug: A Methodology for the Improvement of Local-Area Networks" has been accepted for oral presentation at the "2009 International Conference on e-Business and Information System Security (EBISS 2009)". Similar to the CSSE conference, the paper will be published in the Conference Proceedings by the IEEE Press, which will be included in IEEE Xplore and indexed by EI Compendex.

Abstract: "DHCP and Internet QoS, while robust in theory, have notuntil recently been considered compelling. In fact, few hackers worldwide would disagree with the exploration
of multicast applications, which embodies the confusing principles of robotics. In order to fulfill this mission, we introduce a scalable tool for evaluating Internet QoS (PlusPug), which we use to prove that digital-to-analog converters and XML are regularly incompatible."
Actually this incident is even worse than the previous paper because the paper has been accepted for oral presentation. Here is the acceptance notification and the review result (Take a special look at the rating in the PDF file):
"Accepted. Topic of this paper is related to this conference. This paper mainly studies on a methodology for the improvement of local-area networks. The author introduces a scalable tool for evaluating Internet QoS(PlusPug), which the author uses to prove that digital-to-analog converters and XML are regularly incompatible. The author’s work is suggestive, and the point of view deserves researching. Figures in this paper seem exact, which makes this paper more convictive. There is no major modification opinion, only please pay more attention to Englishgrammatical rule and format your paper according to the template provided by conference homepage. We look forward to seeing you in EBISS2009."

It is good to see Herbert Schlangemann having Erdös number 1 due to the his work with J. Hennessy, V. Jacobson, D. Patterson,
ReplyDeleteL. Moore and P. Erdös.
@paul: This also should have raised the Erdös number of Hennessy and Patterson ;) and lots of other colleagues ... very cool ...
ReplyDeleteoops... lowered of course :)

ReplyDeletethis is so sad. im new to publishing and academics and thought IEEE was a reputable body. I know some of the conferences are good ... but since IEEE is allowing all these fake conferences to be held... I might need to look elsewhere... hope ACM is not following the same path...
ReplyDeleteI am not that outraged. This case is the most case you present, since it has been accepted for presentation.
ReplyDeleteI can understand that local organizers be willing to give a chance to some of their students, with little regards to the quality of the work. That does not justify a witch hunt, but it simply shows that the academic standards of this very conference only is way below par.
IEEE cannot be help responsible for the papers accepted, at most for choosing poor organizers.
